Defining Pain & Pleasure
Our life is entirely dependent on the way we use pain & pleasure in our life. We fail because we overreact to our pleasures & pain. We falter in life when we let these emotions rule us. We can’t wish them away but we can surely use them to our advantage. One way to use these is by choosing the right way to define pleasure & pain in our life.
When we indulge in any habit which is detrimental to our physical or spiritual existence, we should immediately associate it with a lot of pain. When we do so, our mind receives the signal of rejection and starts behaving accordingly. It sends back the signal to whole body not to accept the activity & you stop indulging in the same.
On the contrary, when you don't associate it with pain, mind accepts it as a routine activity & it becomes the part of your daily routine. Your body is tuned in to follow the patterns of that habit. Any break in patterns is not accepted by the body & you feel the discomfort when you don’t indulge in it. The same pattern is followed when you don't associate pain with failures- body receives it as a routine thing & you become accustomed to failures.
Similarly, if you associate any good habit to extreme pleasure, you will adopt this habit as an integral part of your life. For example, if you associate your getting up early & going for a walk with a lot of pleasure & you imagine yourself as leading a very healthy life because of this habit, your mind will force you to go for a walk daily irrespective of the circumstances outside.
So, pain & pleasure are nothing but mediums to write the story of your life. The only way to be hugely successful & lead a meaningful life is to understand what is right for you & what harms you in the long run & associate it with pain or pleasure to your advantage.
